Valentine’s Day Cookies

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ve been so focused on Valentine’s Day Cupcake ideas that I almost forgot to make cookies with my new cookie cutters and supplies Karen’s Cookies. If you haven’t already checked out this site, I highly recommend you do. She has some great tutorials, recipes, videos & supplies like the kissing lips used on these cookies. An added bonus was the reasonable shipping rate and speedy arrival; this is a rare occurrence for Alaskan residents.

On Friday night I got to work rolling, cutting, baking and decorating cookies. I’m in love with Lila Loa’s End All Chocolate Cookie recipe. They are deliciously soft and the royal icing colors really pops on these cookies.  Beware, if you make these cookies you may never make a sugar cookie again.

The other thing I love about this recipe it that the cookies don’t spread much at all when baking.

I recently started moving away from Wilton icing colors and using  Americolor soft gel paste. So far I’m very happy with the change. I would never have gotten theses shades of red using Wilton’s Icing Colors. It would have taken  way too much red and I would have gotten frustrated long before these reds developed. Red icing has been the reason for many icing fits in the past.

After making a powdered sugary, red mess of my kitchen and myself here are some of the cookies I made.

I wish I could say the “Love Bug” was my idea, but I have to give that  credit to A+Kake Sweets. When I saw her Love Bug cookie I just had to make one of my own. Isn’t she cute?

Once packaged these cookies make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for friends or family.

PS- I have not been paid to endorse any of the vendors or products I recommended in this post. I’m just spreading the love based on my own positive experiences.
